Configure Japanese Support for Windows


How To: Show Japanese Characters on Windows

If you can view the series of Japanese characters below then you have Japanese support installed correctly on your computer and don't need to to aynthing more to your windows settings.

If nothing is displayed or if they all appear as boxes, then you will need to add Japanese support to your computer to view them.

Please note: You may need to insert the Windows installation CD and it may be necessary to restart your computer when you have finished.

Windows XPAnd Server 2003 - Japanese text installation

These instructions can be followed for installation of most types of additional language support on Windows XP. They are a simplified version Microsoft's own instructions for installation of international support on XP.

  1. Using the "Start Menu", open the "Control Panel".
  2. XP only: Select "Date, Time, Language, and Regional Options"
  3. Select "Regional and Language Options".
  4. Click on the "Languages" tab.
  5. Tick the box for "Install East Asian Languages".
  6. Press the "OK" button to finish.

Windows 2000 - Japanese text installation

These instructions can be followed for installation of most types of additional language support on Windows 2000. They are a simplified version Microsoft's own instructions for installation of international support on Windows 2000

  1. Using the "Start Menu", open the "Control Panel" under "Settings".
  2. Select "Regional Options".
  3. Under the default "General" tab, tick the box for "Japanese".
  4. Press the "OK" button to finish.
